Reading Boot Camp
This year Skill Builders will be offering a summer long reading group, which will focus on decoding and reading fluency.
This group is ideal for children in grades 1-3 who are struggling with reading grade- level material. This group is designed to teach children a systematic approach to decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling), as opposed to the traditional phonics approach taught in the public schools. The speech-language pathologist leading this group will utilize the Wilson Reading System™.
Reading fluency difficulties are characterized by reading slowly, haltingly, or word by word. Using the Read Naturally Program™, upon adequate group progress being made with decoding skills, the group will also focus on reading fluency, comprehension, phonics, vocabulary, and self-monitoring.
Prerequisites: Children must be able to independently identify, write, and provide sounds for the consonants of the alphabet prior to the first session. Families must also be willing to ensure that carry-over activities are completed as assigned.
Dates: : Mondays and Wednesdays 11am -1pm, beginning June 28.
