Bethany Piccolo M.ED:
Strategies to facilitate and optimize play/learning time in the home to build a variety of skills. Beth has both classroom experience teaching preschool special education and in home experience with early intervention services. Through these professional positions, Beth has taught students with a range of abilities. Having taught in a preschool autism classroom, Beth received training in the teaching strategies of floortime, verbal behavior, TEACCH, applied behavior analysis, and picture exchange communication. Of particular personal and professional interest are students affected by autism spectrum disorders. Working within the scope of each child’s abilities, Beth attempts to maintain a balance of demands and play combining to encourage the optimal growth for each student. Respecting that each child learns differently and may not always respond in a classic way to standard text book strategies, Beth tries to incorporate strategies based on a child’s overall receptiveness and interest.

Feeding difficulties in toddlers and preschoolers. Jane has experience working with children who have oral-motor difficulties for eating, as well as sensory issues around food. Focus on “picky eaters”, including tips from the Food Chaining program by Cheryl Fraker, CCC-SLP.

Deb Barbara OTR/L:
Background in sensory integration with neurodevelopment treatment techniques (NDT), motor learning, and psycho-social development form the foundation of her eclectic treatment approaches. Her experience encompasses a wide variety of disabilities including developmental delay, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, pervasive developmental disorder, learning disability as well as apraxia and sensory processing disorders.

Michael Toobin, Esquire:
Mr. Toobin will address the financial and estate planning needs of families raising a child with a disability. Mr. Toobin presents frequent workshops in the Northern Virginia area and has been in practice since 1974.

Nadya Molina M.ED.BCBA:
Nadya will be discussing the functions of behavior, what behavior plans are and how they are developed, and how to deal with problem behaviors at home or in your child’s various other environments. Nadya is the founder and director of Alternative Behaviors, LLC. She holds a Commonwealth of Virginia, Postgraduate Professional License in the areas of Emotional Disturbance K-12, Specific Learning Disabilities K-12, Elementary Education PREK-6, Mental Retardation K-12, and Severe Disabilities K-12; and is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Nadya was also an Adjunct Professor for the ABA Certificate Program in the spring 2008 at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA.
